CEFR Level B1
B1 German Course in Nepal
B1 is the third CEFR level and the independent-user threshold. At B1 you can handle most situations that arise while travelling or living in Germany, produce connected text on familiar topics, and explain your opinions and plans.
B1 is the level that matters most for Nepali students, because it is the language requirement that appears on most Ausbildung and German student visa applications. It is also the level at which German stops being a school subject and becomes something you can live in — you can argue a point, explain a problem, and hold a conversation that is not about the weather.

B1 syllabus
- Complex sentence structure
- Relative clauses, indirect questions, infinitive clauses with zu, and multi-clause sentences.
- The passive voice
- Present and past passive, passive with modal verbs, and when German prefers the passive.
- Konjunktiv II
- Polite requests, hypothetical situations, wishes and advice.
- Genitive and advanced prepositions
- The genitive case, prepositions governing genitive, and verbs with fixed prepositions.
- Formal and professional German
- Formal letters and emails, applications, complaints, and workplace communication.
- Discussion and opinion
- Structuring an argument, agreeing and disagreeing, and presenting advantages and disadvantages — the core of the B1 speaking examination.
- Exam-format practice
- Reading, listening, writing and speaking tasks in the format used by B1 examinations, with group speaking practice.

What B1 lets you apply for
B1 from a recognised provider — Goethe-Institut, ÖSD or telc — is the standard German language requirement for an Ausbildung visa, and is widely required or expected for German student visa applications. Some fields, particularly nursing and customer-facing roles, prefer or require B2. Requirements vary by employer, by federal state and over time, so verify yours with the German mission in Nepal and with the specific employer or university before you apply.

B1 German: frequently asked questions
Is B1 German enough for Ausbildung in Germany?
B1 from a recognised provider is the standard requirement for an Ausbildung visa and is sufficient for many programmes. However, nursing, customer-facing and some technical roles often expect B2, and requirements differ between employers. Treat B1 as the minimum and confirm with your specific employer.
How long does the B1 German course take?
Two months, with 1.5 hours of class per day, six days a week. Reaching exam-ready B1 usually takes additional independent practice beyond class hours, particularly for speaking and writing.
How much does a B1 German course cost in Nepal?
Our B1 course fee is रु 8000 for the full course, including live classes, session recordings, study materials, speaking practice in group activities and a certificate of completion.
Do you conduct the Goethe B1 exam?
No. We prepare students for B1 examinations but we are not an examination centre. Goethe-Institut, ÖSD and telc examinations are administered only at accredited centres, and you register with them directly.
Can I go from A1 straight to B1?
It is not advisable. A2 introduces the past tense, the dative case and subordinate word order, all of which B1 assumes you already control. Skipping A2 is the most common reason learners fail B1 on their first attempt.
Should I continue to B2 after B1?
If you are aiming at nursing, healthcare or a German-taught university programme, yes — those generally require B2 rather than B1. For most Ausbildung trades B1 is sufficient, though B2 strengthens any application and makes the first year of vocational school considerably easier.
How do I know if I am ready for the B1 exam?
Take our free B1 level test. It is timed and multiple-choice, so it checks grammar and reading rather than speaking or writing, but a weak score is a reliable sign that you are not yet ready to pay an examination fee.
