A1 German Course in Nepal
A1 is the first level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At A1 you can introduce yourself, ask and answer simple personal questions, and understand slow, clear speech about everyday things.
A1 is where every German journey starts. It is the level that decides whether the rest is easy or painful, because almost every mistake Nepali learners carry into A2 and B1 — wrong articles, wrong word order, guessed pronunciation — is an A1 habit that was never corrected. This course is taught in Nepali so that the grammar is actually understood the first time, not memorised.

What you can do after A1
These are the A1 outcomes described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- Introduce yourself and others, and give your address, nationality and age
- Ask and answer simple questions about familiar topics
- Understand and use everyday expressions and very basic phrases
- Read short, simple texts such as signs, notices and forms
- Write a short personal message, form or note
- Understand slow, clearly articulated speech about immediate needs
A1 syllabus
- Pronunciation and the alphabet
- German sounds that do not exist in Nepali — ü, ö, ä, ch, z, r — plus the alphabet and spelling aloud.
- Nouns, gender and articles
- der, die and das, the definite and indefinite articles, and plural formation. Every noun is learned together with its article.
- Present tense verbs
- Regular and irregular conjugation, sein and haben, separable verbs, and the modal verbs können, müssen, wollen, dürfen and möchten.
- Sentence structure
- Verb-second word order in statements, question formation with and without question words, and the imperative.
- Cases: nominative and accusative
- When each case is used, how articles and pronouns change, and the accusative prepositions.
- Numbers, time and dates
- Counting, telling the time, days, months, dates and prices.
- Core vocabulary
- Family, food and drink, the home, clothing, daily routine, shopping, health, travel and directions.

What A1 lets you apply for
A1 alone is not enough for a German student or Ausbildung visa — those need B1 — but it is the required foundation for both, and A1 is accepted for some family-reunion visa categories. Verify the current requirement for your own visa type with the German mission before you plan around it.

A1 German: frequently asked questions
How long does it take to complete A1 German?
At Pass The Excellence the A1 course runs for 1.5 months with one hour of class per day, six days a week. Most learners need a similar amount of self-study time again on top of class hours to be comfortable at the level.
How much does an A1 German course cost in Nepal?
Our A1 course fee is रु 4000 for the full course, which includes live classes, recordings of every session, study materials and a certificate of completion. Physical institutes in Kathmandu generally charge considerably more.
Is the A1 class taught in Nepali or German?
Explanations are given in Nepali, with German used for examples, practice and classroom instructions. Teaching grammar in Nepali is the fastest way for a beginner to actually understand a concept such as case or gender rather than memorise it.
Can I join A1 if I have never studied German before?
Yes. A1 assumes no prior German at all. The course begins with the alphabet and pronunciation.
Do I get a certificate after A1?
You receive a Pass The Excellence certificate of completion. That is separate from an official Goethe-Institut, ÖSD or telc certificate, which is awarded only by an accredited examination centre after you sit their exam. We prepare you for those exams; we do not administer them.
What should I study after A1?
A2, which extends A1 into past tense, more complex sentences and the everyday situations you would actually face living in Germany. Take the free A1 level test first to confirm the foundation is solid before moving up.
